What 5 things would you take?

We recently watched a black and white where the "lady of the house" (the original stay at home Mom) was doing her stay at home routine.

I started thinking, how did they do it back then without any modern conveniences. This was back in the days where a family was lucky if they had a horse and buggy. The Moms back than had to use wood stoves, no electricity, they sewed their own clothes, they had to pumped their water, heat it and and use an outhouse euwww. Can you imagine trying to potty train with that?

Of course they had no distractions like computers, television, cell phones, etc... So there was a little more time, but how did they raise their children without all the things we find so useful?

So here is the question, if you had to live under those circumstances, what 5 Baby Essentials could you NOT live without? Here are mine:

#1. My Snugli - Riding in the buggy, working around the house or working in the garden, this will definitely free my hands for all the chores I need to do and keep my little ones close.

#2. The Crib - As some point my little one will have to sleep in her own bed. The modern crib with its modern day safety compliances.

#3. The Playpen - For the beginning of their mobile years. It can follow me in the kitchen while I cook and clean. And it keeps baby off the floors.

#4. Mylacon - Need help for the air they gulp down...

#5. Teething Tablets - To sooth during those trying times.

Ok, it is your turn. Pick 5 things, regarding baby raising that you just couldn't live without... Imagine yourself back in the old days trying to take care of your little one.

Alright so I am completely with you on the Mylicon and Teething tablets because those two things so completely help so much. Also I don't think I could live without Noggin...as much as I hate that channel it keeps my son entertained so I can do my school work. The other two things would be a swing...such a lifesaver when you have a baby with colic...and my washing machine, there is no way I could do all that laundry in a creek somewhere!

Wow, this is a very interesting post. I can only pick five things? Ok here they are:

1. Disposable diapers. I know some moms use cloth ones but I have to have the disposable diapers.

2. The potty chair. I am with you I don't think I could train my kids in an outhouse.

3. Baby wipes. I don't think I'd enjoy rinsing off washcloths all the time.

4. The crib. I agree with you I'd need a place to put my child down as well.

5. The Exersaucer. When my kids were between the ages of 4-10 months this was a lifesaver. It kept them entertained for hours.

I'm with you on those Mylicon drops! My youngest (for now) was allergic to everything I tried to feed her and those drops were lifesavers for me.

Then there is the high chair and the play yard and when she was tiny my sling. I never would have gotten a thing done without it and I believe that it worked WITH the drops to comfort her tummy.

Misadventurous - LOL, I think my back would break washing clothes and diapers all day in the "creek." Love my washing machine, heeheh.

Cascia - Your right a potty chair, can't believe I didn't put that down. I was so icked out at the thought of doing it in an outhouse.

Claire - I love the sling, I think your right, it is very soothing specially when the tummy isn't right.
